Summer is coming!!!

As of today we are now back to over 10 hours of daylight each day!!  Since the shortest day of the year last December, we have gained well over an hour of daylight!!  Come on summer!!!!

  1. Yes, we LIKE daylight!
    Don't forget to take your vitamin D - it's a sunshine substitute.

  2. Nothing is a substitute for sunshine....NOTHING! We now need only 4 more hours of daylight to have enough for a chicken to lay one egg day...But yes, come on summer!!!~Hannahoot

P.S. Don't get me wrong, I love winter...but I hate being cooped up, and waking up with frozen toes. Plus frozen animal water dishes are a daily pain.

  3. Actually, there are substitutes for sunshine! Sort of...

Several types of lamps and lightboxes exist that emit a bright white or "full-spectrum" of light. People use them for Light Therapy, the effects of which are being studied against Seasonal Affective Disorder, Neonatal Jaundice, as well as other disorders.

The special lightboxes typically emit around 10,000 lux, which is equivalent to full daylight, which is far more powerful than a customary incandescent lamp.

I know a few people here who have them, including my manager at work, who raves about hers. She sits under her lamp in the morning and night. If she needs a pick-me-up at work, where there is no lamp, she takes a stroll out to the extensive greenhouses and sits on a bench out there in the sun, with all of the lush plants and fountains. She always comes back completely revitalized. :D
